Christi Flaherty, Real Food Sanity

Well hey there!

Almost two decades ago, I was just cruising through life, being a mom to two young boys, working as a private chef and enjoying life with my best friend and husband, Kyle.

Then Bam!

I had three doctors in a row tell me I needed to eat gluten free. I didn’t know what to do.

You know that feeling, too, I’m sure. It’s like your whole life has been shaken up.

I left that third doctor’s office, wandered around the grocery store literally crying and feeling completely overwhelmed with how to cut out such a prevalent part of my diet.

BUT…I put on my big girl pants and began to learn and now I’m passing all that knowledge along to you and hopefully making your gluten-free journey a little easier.

I’m Christi Flaherty!

A self-proclaimed Real Food Ambassador, I have been teaching cooking classes, meal prepping for busy families and growing a community of busy moms who are interested in eating healthfully for the last two decades. I am a firm believer when you change your food, you change your life so it’s my joy to help families get healthy, unprocessed food on the table.

After becoming the go-to private chef for those in Fort Worth who had terminal and chronic diseases I decided to go back to school to become a holistic nutritionist. This education helped me understand the “why” behind my intuitive knowledge that food was meant to be nourishing and even medicinal so I could help those with health issues eat to support their bodies.

Besides writing hundreds of recipes for my website, I have also written for LiveStrong and Ehow as a food expert. And in addition to cooking for many families over the years, I had the pleasure of cooking for many beautiful Napa Valley wine dinners. My cooking “claim to fame” (and funny story) is cooking in Bryant Park in NYC while being interviewed by Al Roker and observed by Food Network and Gourmet magazine celebrities.

You’ve read this far…so Here are

5 Random facts about me

  1. We moved to Napa Valley in 2007 with two small boys without a house or a job, just a dream to live in wine country. Conicidentally…in 2013, we moved back to Texas thinking we had a house and a job only to find out once the moving truck was loaded and we had landed in Texas that we had neither.

  2. Besides being a holistic nutritionist I was a certified Whole30 coach until they disbanded the program in November 2023. I loved it and stick to Whole30 80% of my life because I feel like it truly benefits my body plus it aligned with everything I learned in nutrition school.

  3. I haven’t been to church in over ten years, but I love Jesus and I love helping others see the reality of Him as a loving being not a judgmental god waiting to smack us when we get out of line. You wouldn’t know this upon meeting me since I don’t just blurt it out as I prefer easy conversations that organically roll into deep meaningful ones over food and fun beverages.

  4. Speaking of fun beverages, I love cocktails, but due to feeling like crap when I drink, I’ve been heavily experimenting with zero-proof cocktails (expect to see lots on here and as bonus recipes with membership.)

  5. Coffee is my love language and you will find me several days a week at my local coffee shop working since the buzz of other people around (and the coffee, of course) stirs my creativity. I was their #1 customer last year! LOL!
